As part of the Transformative Graduate Education initiative, CIRTL at Virginia Tech offers professional development opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral associates seeking to gain teaching-related knowledge and skills for educational environments as well as work-based contexts for which such skills are used. CIRTL at Virginia Tech is co-sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Graduate School.

    CIRTL Network Programming

    Virginia Tech is a member of the CIRTL Network, which offers online workshops, non-credit-bearing courses, and other events focused on such topics as evidence-based teaching fundamentals and academic professional development. CIRTL Network programming also provides an opportunity for participants to engage with experts from a variety of CIRTL Network institutions. Registration is required for CIRTL Network programming.

    CIRTL at Virginia Tech Associate Teaching Program

    This local CIRTL program is designed for current Virginia Tech graduate students and postdoctoral associates to connect and associate with effective teaching practices. It offers several options for program completion, which involve programming focused on foundational knowledge about teaching along with the completion of a teaching philosophy activity. Upon program completion, participants will receive a digital CIRTL at Virginia Tech Associate Badge. An application is required for program participation.

    CIRTL at Virginia Tech Practitioner Teaching Program

    The Practitioner Teaching Program is designed for graduate students and postdoctoral associates to engage in and reflect on effective teaching practices. Program participants will meet regularly as a cohort throughout the academic year and complete activities to further their engagement in evidence-based teaching practices. Upon program completion, participants will receive a digital CIRTL at Virginia Tech Practitioner Badge. An application is required. Those who have completed the CIRTL at Virginia Tech Associate Teaching Program and will be current graduate students or postdoctoral associates at Virginia Tech for the full academic year of the Practitioner Teaching Program are eligible to apply.
